All in all, not a bad character piece, even if the author did push the Pygmalion allusion/analogy a bit too much.

One thing, though...
A reference to a Michael in a study of perfection: All I can think of is Michelangelo's David in conjunction with "statue," "male," and "perfection." Far be it for me, of course, to call the author out and tell her she got her reference wrong; it could be some reference I don't understand. I just feel like maybe the "Michael" should have been "David" after all...
