Reader's Discretion Advised

...this confuses me. So...it's like tumblr...for books?

Either way, I'm mainly on Goodreads. I do occasionally come here, and also do periodically import my shelves from GR here, but GR is a more sure bet for contacting me.

Fifty Shades of Grey - E.L. James I sincerely tried to give this book a fair chance (I knew it was originally a Twilight fanfic, but I've learned that sometimes there are magical fanfic writers who can take a...less than desired basis series...and make something wonderful). Anyway, ignoring the obvious Twilight parallels, the book was just painful to read. The prose seemed rather juvenile; I'd have expected something more...intelligent(?) considering she's supposed to be a college student. Ana comes off to me as either a complete bitch without realizing, and therefore TSTL, or completely clueless, and therefore by default TSTL. She comes off as having a victim complex and seems to blame her friend excessively while pretending like she's actually not (Oh, don't be fooled; the inferiority complex is there). (At least Bella just had an inferiority complex.)I couldn't even force myself to finish it. Hell, I probably made it about 1/8 of the way through before I couldn't handle it anymore.A couple of the Seattle descriptions bothered me, but that's because I had just gone there (yay for tourism!). (For example, hell the hell does she just speed down the I-5? I mean, when I was there, there was a lot of traffic. Also, it's kind of on a pretty high bridge where it goes through the downtown part. I'm not sure I'd really want to speed on that, even when it's NOT raining...)Seriously, this comes off as a knock-off version of Twilight. Twilight at least had the train-wreck effect going for it. This one... *wince
